Barsad and his mixed identities.

John Barsad is an English spy. Barsad is one of the men that testifies against Charles Darnay at the trial. After Darnay is found innocent John Barsad returns to England and helps to fake Cly's death. Jerry Cruncher tries to dig up Cly's body and to his suprise finds only paving stones. Cruncher discovers that Cly is alive in Paris and lets Sydney Carton know about it. Sydney Carton uses Cly's fake death against Barsad so he will go into the prison and rescue Charles Darnay. Barsad brought Sydney Carton into the prison so he and Charles Darnay could switch places. Then he exits the prison with Charles Darnay and reunites him with his family. He is mesmerized by Sydney Carton's sacrifice, but not enough to make him change his sly ways. In the novel we also find out that Barsad is Miss Pross's brother Solomon Pross but took on his new identity to become a spy, John Barsad.
